How To Study Effectively And Get Organized

Do you scramble to get assignments finished on time? Do you find that the more things you have to complete, and the more the pressure builds, the more likely you are to engage in time-wasting activities? Do you find that things you really want to engage in – such as that really good diet and exercise plan you just found online (you know the one that absolutely 100% guarantees success) constantly fall into that endless and timeless pit of “things I wanted to do”? Well, forget all that. That’s the past. This is the now. It’s a new day and a new chance to get your life in order. Nothing better than a new day to bring true inspiration!


If your organizational ability has been out of control in your past we can use that information to accurately predict that things are likely to always be out of control in your future. Pretty uncomplicated stuff isn’t it? Do you want to see your long term future? Examine your history. Unless of course you decide that today is definitely the day to produce a change for yourself! You decide you’d love to get yourself super organized. You decide that you’d prefer to have a bunch of free time and get rid of all of that rushing, stress and worry? Does any of that seem good to you? I hope it does. We are going to take a look at some strategies you can actually put in place straight away to create a brand new organized you.


Get Control of Your Time


What can you do to obtain full control of your time?


1. Utilize a weekly planner to write in when tasks are scheduled for completion and when any tests or assessments are taking place. It is natural to fail to remember when assignments, exams and tests are scheduled so take the burden off your memory by simply writing everything you need down.


2. Discover the periods you feel you might be most efficient and arrange your study times around them. This may be in the early morning before school or perhaps late at night. Your peak performance time may not be when you think it is so start exploring when you have lots of energy.


3. Remember to keep on top of assignments and also other responsibilities from the beginning. Plan Your Life


All of us need and (I believe?) want a functioning social life so don’t forget to have some fun as well!


1. Ensure you’ve got some time allocated to link up with other people every single day and arrange this time around your classes and study times (take note that we really don’t suggest you arrange your study around your social life – it will need to be the other way around).


2. Often the “peak study hours” – free periods at school and also within the first couple of hours right after school – get whittled away by discussions as well as the blab factor (as in you might be wasting time with directionless and mostly pointless chatter) after which you find yourself way too tired or uninspired to study.


Utilize To-Do Lists

Learn How To Study Effectively Using The 80/20 Rule

First of all, the 80/20 rule is not about economics or maths (even though it may sound like it), so let’s get that straight from the start! However, this rule does apply to your life (and everyone else’s life) so it’s very important that you are aware of it and can start manipulating it for your own benefit (in the way you study or in any other field you choose).


The 80/20 rule states that 80% of what we achieve is a direct result of 20% of the actions we take (it also applies to many other areas but they are not the focus of this article). In plain English, this means that only a very small amount of the actions we take each day create most of what we achieve (or don’t achieve). The ratio does not have to be 80/20 – it may even be as high as 99/1 – but the point is simply that your major results (your 80%) are actually being dictated by a minority of your actions (your 20%).


Examples of how this applies in your life are everywhere but let’s look at a simple example to demonstrate how this works. If you think about everybody you know (friends, family, acquaintances etc) the 80/20 rule tells us that you will spend 80% or more of your time with 20% or less of all of the people you know. Now does that sound about right to you? I bet it does.


Given that 80% of what we achieve is a direct result of 20% of the actions we take, the first point to take away today is that in order to have the most impact you must focus on the 20% that is impacting your 80% – and then disregard the rest. That’s right, find your 20% and then forget everything else.


Clearly, there is no reason to spend your time doing things that account for only 20% of what you achieve, especially if that 20% takes up 80% of your time! Instead, you should focus on the 20% that is impacting 80% of your results. Focus on drastically improving your results by changing those areas that are having the most impact. For example, if you find that your biggest challenge is being disorganized then if that area was transformed you would find it would have a massive result wouldn’t it? So you change one thing but it impacts lots of things.


Regrettably, this is not always easy to answer as many things can have a big impact on your results and everyone is different. However, there are always common denominators that seem to impact everyone in one way or another and we can safely assume they are impacting you as well. So what are they?


The biggest 20% area that undoubtedly creates and influences your outcomes are your habits. With poor habits come poor results. There is no doubt about it. You may not even realize it but your habits are impacting you right now. Change your habits and you will change your outcomes.


Motivation levels are almost always a challenge. If you don’t feel motivated you don’t do anything. If you don’t do anything there is no way you can be successful! It’s not possible is it? If you feel super motivated each day (a small 20% area) then it will no doubt creates big results for you (the 80% area). Find a way to get motivated each day and you will create a massive transformation in your results.


Your memory recall ability has a huge impact on your results. Many tests and exams don’t only test knowledge; they also strongly test your memory recall. Unfortunately, not many students are taught how to recall information. Nonetheless, if your memory recall ability is legendary then you will transform your results! I’m sure we can agree on that. SO again, we see that one area (your 20%) is having a significant impact on your level of achievement (your 80%).


There is no doubt that there are many areas that impact your results. But you will definitely have a few items (say 2-3) that are causing the most impact. Have you been able to identify your 20% areas? Identify those things that are having the biggest impact on you and get to work on them. If you work hard on those things that have maximum result and your grades will absolutely skyrocket. Good luck!
